Aurelia is a nod to the idea of telepathy as I attempt to tell the story of my summer using currently existing brain scanning technology to produce images that are not just data visualizations but expressive portraits of my mental states and emotions.

Human history can be described in terms of quality and immersiveness of expression. A crucial part of our existence has been about sharing thoughts and feelings with each other through words, symbols and images. At the start we were only limited to basic sounds and gestures but with the invention of language and writing we learnt how to have our stories transcend the boundaries of time.

Fast forward to today and we have the capacity to say things that can reach millions instantaneously. With technologies like virtual and augmented reality we can bring a new level of immersiveness to the experiences we share. What is the theoretical end to this? Will brain computer interfaces ever be complex enough to allow us to communicate directly from one brain to another without the use of any medium?
